The New York outfit that goes by the name Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has delivered one of the best albums I've heard this year in their self titled debut. The band's debt to David Byrne is readily apparent, which draws inevitable comparisons with last years breakout darlings The Arcade Fire, but that's really where the similarity ends. Singer Alec Ousworth's pulsing, syncopated vocals are layered over rolling pop arrangements with a melodic intelligence that would make even Byrne himself proud. It was hard to pick two tracks from this end-to-end gem, but these should whet your appetite until you can make it to the record store.
